Arts Partners of Wichita
Arts Partners of Wichita inspires children to learn and create by integrating the arts into the PreK-12 curriculum. They do this fine work by collaborating with many educational, civic, and cultural organizations–and by placing local artists in area schools. What does arts integration look like? Well, you might see this:
- A visual artist leads a Geometric Name Design workshop, helping middle school math students reinforce their knowledge of math terms while they create artwork based on radial symmetry.
- During an artists’ residency with an Arts Partners musician, third grade students retell a story through lyric writing, enhancing both music and language arts skills.
- Reader’s theater workshops provide an introduction to drama and an opportunity for students to increase their fluency in reading.
- Students understand more about other cultures as they learn folkdances from around the world.
Skyler Lovelace of Pixel Time is a roster artist with Arts Partners, and she teaches workshops for students and for teachers. For 2011-12, her workshops include:
The Art of Quadrilaterals

Quadrilaterals show up in everyday life and art—you can use them in your designs too! This workshop shows students how quadrilaterals function in art and design. They’ll see examples of great art made using these geometric shapes, then make some quadrilateral art of their own. Along the way, we’ll answer that important question: Will it tessellate?
Design a Book Cover
for writing students, grades 5 & 6
You can design a book cover! This workshop shows students how the pros do it, then they choose their own images, colors and words to make an amazing book cover.
If Van Gogh had Photoshop
for art students, grades 8 & 9
This student workshop series shows how traditional art can inspire new digital art. First, we’ll look at famous art made by surrealists, pop artists and impressionists. Then we’ll try digital tools and techniques to create similar visual effects.
Animal Icons

This workshop series shows students how simple lines can communicate and introduces a design process that includes visual research, sketching, revising and publishing. Students create an original animal design, then share their work in a virtual gallery.
